TogetherTuesday is about bringing communities together through simple, meaningful acts of care and collective action. It’s a moment built for participation, and how you share your activation is what helps others understand it, join it, and feel part of it.

From volunteer efforts and community events to digital campaigns and coordinated actions, your TogetherTuesday story begins the moment you start planning and inviting others in.

That’s why storytelling matters now. Clear, simple communication helps people understand what you’re doing, why it matters to your community, and how they can take part.

And while the impact of TogetherTuesday will be felt long after June 23, the story you tell along the way is what brings it to life.

We know that stories don’t just reflect generosity — they help activate it. According to the GivingTuesday Data Commons, awareness of GivingTuesday has prompted 86% of people to be more generous. Storytelling helps turn awareness into participation by showing people where they fit.

As you prepare, here are practical tips from our communications team to help you craft and share your TogetherTuesday activation story across email and social media in a way that is clear, compelling, and easy for others to join.

Make Your Emails Do The Work

“Your newsletter isn’t just an update, it’s an invitation. Think of every send as a chance to remind your supporters they’re part of something bigger.”
– Vanessa Zarba, GivingTuesday’s Digital Communications Manager

Email is one of the most powerful tools you have to share your TogetherTuesday activation. It helps turn awareness into participation and keeps your community connected before, during, and after the day.

Whether you’re rallying volunteers, highlighting community efforts, or sharing ways to participate, your emails should help people quickly understand what’s happening and how they can be part of it.

Here are three ways to elevate your email storytelling strategy:

1. Lead with One Clear Story

Instead of cramming every update into one email, center each send around a single story — a volunteer’s experience, a small act of generosity, or a behind-the-scenes look at your activation coming together. This helps supporters connect emotionally and understand your message quickly.

On TogetherTuesday, highlighting one clear moment can help people see exactly how to participate and why it matters.

Tip: Before drafting your email, ask yourself: “What’s the one thing I want someone to remember after reading this?” Start there and build around it.

2. Write Like You Talk

Drop the jargon and skip the corporate tone. Use first names, contractions, and a warm, natural voice. Imagine you’re speaking directly to a supporter — friendly, clear, and personal.

People connect with people, not organizations, so let your voice feel human and grounded.

Tip: Read your email out loud before sending it. If it sounds stiff or overly formal, simplify it until it feels more conversational and approachable.

3. End with an Action That Feels Doable (or Delightful)

Every email should give readers a clear way to participate in your TogetherTuesday activation on June 23. Invite them to volunteer, attend an event, share a community need, bring a friend, or take part in a simple act of generosity alongside your organization.

The key is to make participation feel easy, meaningful, and connected to something happening in real time within their community.

Tip: Be specific about what participation looks like. Clear, actionable invitations help people quickly understand how they can show up and be part of the day.

In Summary

Every email is an opportunity to bring people into your TogetherTuesday activation. A thoughtful story, a clear voice, and an easy invitation to participate can help your community feel connected, informed, and ready to take action together on June 23.

Build Sustainable Momentum on Social Media

“The goal is to make connections with people. Real people. That means your content should cater to their hopes, concerns, and dreams. Make it relatable and personal, but don’t take it too seriously. Have fun!”
– Adam Jorgensen, GivingTuesday’s Social Media Manager

Social media is where your TogetherTuesday activation comes to life in real time. It’s where people learn about what’s happening, they find ways to join in, and understand why TogetherTuesday matters.

There is no one-size-fits-all approach. There are, however, actionable ways to make your content stronger, more flexible, and more engaging.

Here’s where to start:

1. Try Something New

TogetherTuesday is your moment to try something. This doesn’t mean overhauling your strategy, just add a fresh element to boost engagement or use it as a moment to test out your GivingTuesday campaign.

To make the most of our TogetherTuesday content, we collaborate with a variety of nonprofit partners to highlight the great work they’re doing and share stories of community leaders making an impact. These partnerships allow us to make connections with new audiences and elevate our mission.

Whatever you choose, don’t overthink it and make sure you set your milestones and track success!

Tip: If you’re testing out new content in your typical series, post at the same time. For example, you post every Tuesday afternoon sharing a story of generosity in your community that inspires people to participate in your TogetherTuesday campaign.

This approach can build a consistent drumbeat for your audience and lead to stronger engagement over time.

2. Get Your Team Invested

Bring in different voices from across your organization. Your team members, volunteers, and leadership can help share content and create more noise about why your organization is participating in TogetherTuesday.

This will make your activation feel more real and connected.

Tip: Find out what about your mission inspires your team members the most. Tap into that when you’re asking others to join in on your content or help plan events!

Your Slack channels and emails are goldmines for this! Just make sure you get consent before sharing anything.

3. Repurpose Your Top Performing Content

Look at what has worked in the past and repurpose it! A strong blog, for example, can become a post on social media, a quote graphic, carousel or even a script. If you’re in need of some creative inspiration, check out our TogetherTuesday Canva template page.

You don’t need to start from scratch, simply adapt what resonates.

Tip: Use earned media to inform your content strategy. Was your CEO recently interviewed on TV or radio? Repurpose that content into a post for TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube shorts. If you only have access to audio, get creative with Canva and make some simple animations with text or audio waves.

In Summary

Social media is about connection, not perfection. Focus on making your content relatable and engaging to your target audience. Listen to your team and your supporters, repurpose what works, and keep your community at the center of everything you post.
