About the Position

GivingTuesday is seeking a Data Scientist to support analyses of the global giving data it collects and manages and help accomplish research objectives. As part of our global data science team reporting to the Senior Data Scientist, the Data Scientist will rely on their ability to access, query, manipulate, process and analyze data in order to support work on a diverse set of problems and projects related to learning, insights, and impact measurement in the nonprofit sector.

The right candidate will be fascinated by the challenge of assisting in meta-analysis of research, analyzing aggregated datasets to identify key indicators, conducting global social and media listening to measure the conversation, processing and annotating survey research data for visualization, developing values and behavior dashboards and contribute towards data science initiatives to recommend actionable insights and solutions to stakeholders.


  • Processing, cleaning, validating, and analyzing a wide range of traditional, structured data from organization partners and collaborators in the nonprofit ecosystem in order to generate actionable insights for the sector.
  • Organizing, examining, and managing key datasets, including creating database dictionaries and user documentation.
  • Supporting the development of methodologies for achieving desired research outcomes and results based on existing data.
  • Coding and updating data pipelines to automate recurrent operations on core datasets for research projects
  • Creating impactful data visualizations and interactive data dashboards
  • Delivering briefings and rapid-response/ad-hoc data analysis to support the Chief Data Officer presentations and media appearances.


  • Degree in data science, mathematics, statistics, engineering, or other quantitative fields. Coursework/Intensive training in data science and statistics with demonstrable skill set also accepted.
  • Familiarity with statistical techniques including hypothesis testing, regression analysis, and sampling techniques.
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g. Python), and data querying languages (SQL required).
  • Skilled in exploratory analysis and mapping data flows, integration of datasets and reviewing data sources, tools, and methodologies.
  • Solid data visualization skills (e.g. Looker) and an aptitude for translating technical outputs into compelling stories.
  • Solid relationship management skills, with the ability to collaborate with a variety of internal stakeholders on complex research initiatives.
  • Experience with software development tools and practices (e.g. version control).
  • Understanding of legislation around privacy and best practices for securing data.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills in English and an ability to communicate clearly and directly.
  • Interest in the nonprofit and philanthropic sector and use of data to promote better social outcomes.
  • Experience working with Airflow, Docker, Kubernetes is an asset

Africa Program and Partnership Manager

Location: Africa-based, preference for candidates in West Africa or Southern Africa

It is also the name of the nucleus organization that supports the global movement of 80+ countries, hundreds of communities, causes, and identity-based movements and coalitions, and many millions of people all over the world committed to inspiring and manifesting generosity in the world. Now in our tenth year, we have a track record of remarkable impact behind us and exponential growth ahead. Our team has grown five-fold in the past two years. To better support our global network and foster innovation throughout the movement, GivingTuesday established in-country support teams –  the “Global Hubs” in India and Africa. The Africa Hub aims to discover, support and connect new types of systems leaders through high quality and locally relevant leadership programs, networks and research. 


We are seeking a senior-level manager and social impact movement builder to join our global, distributed team as the Program and Partnership Advisor to oversee the delivery of the Global Hub’s programs and help manage key relationships in Africa. 


About the Role

Reporting to the Director of Africa, this role will serve as a senior program leader responsible for global hubs program design, partner identification and community support. They will be supporting program partners, coalitions and fellowships implemented under the GivingTuesday’s global hubs across regions.

The successful candidate will be a thoughtful, collaborative and strategic thinker motivated to solve complex problems in new ways and with new models of collaboration. The candidate must have an entrepreneurial spirit and great communicator with a deep knowledge in the Africa region and the ability to work well in a global, diverse and remote team environment. 



They will work closely with the Hub Director to ensure coordinated and efficient cross-function programme design and implementation to deliver the Giving Tuesday hub’s strategy. Specific tasks will include:

Manage Relationships with Potential Partners and Key Stakeholders

  • Identify, develop and manage long-term partnerships and networks (with local and regional NGOs, private sector companies, regional donors and influencers) to advance the hubs priorities 
  • Design new programs for the Africa Hubs drawing from both broad-based and targeted relationships with advocates, influencers, funders, and regional experts 
  • Enhance the movement’s visibility and explore opportunities for business development under the guidance Africa Director 

Support and Strengthen Local Leadership 

  • Develop, launch, and manage new leadership strengthening program curriculums for individuals, organizations and networks
  • Support local leaders across Africa with strategic planning processes, ensuring high quality and ambitious strategic vision, organizational sustainability and impact 
  • Participate in on-going context analysis to ensure the Hub’s programs are continually adapted to the evolving contexts across the region
  • Lead the process of building new concepts and proposal pipeline in line with the Africa Hub’s strategic priorities

Key Qualifications 

  • At least 8 years of professional experience in a senior management position with an international, multicultural or multi-stakeholder organization
  • On-the-ground experience in leadership development and supporting grassroots or community-based organizations in Africa
  • Program design, implementation, and management experience that demonstrates you are strategic and independent thinker 
  • Solid and organized project manager, capable of ensuring team effort in multiple countries 
  • Track record of skilled partnership and relationship development
  • Embraces entrepreneurial and dynamic approaches to learning 
  • Familiarity with GivingTuesday in Africa is a plus

Location and Time Zones

  • This role is virtual (no office) and reporting to the Hub diretor in Nairobi, Kenya
  • Preferably based in West or South Africa, but with some travel required to meet with teams and other key stakeholders in other regions across Africa 
  • The requirement to work a majority of time in the West or South Africa time zone workday
