In a time when it feels like all we hear about is why we should fear or distrust each other, we believe in the power of coming together and sharing a meal. By inviting people in our neighborhoods, churches, schools — anywhere and anyone in the community — to the table, we defy this narrative one meal at a time and encourage people to Love Anyway.
Working across many organizations, Common Ground USA launched its inaugural Love Anyway Feasts campaign in November 2024. The campaign was created to remind people of the power of community and offer an alternative to division. The main goal was for people to still feel love and understanding for their families, friends, and neighbors after the American elections — especially if they held different beliefs.
During the dinners, participants are encouraged to be their authentic selves — openly expressing their thoughts, hopes, and fears — using tools and conversation guides provided by our team. As everyone talks over a shared meal, the goal is to create a courageous space where empathy can flourish and preconceived notions or prejudices can dissolve. These dinners also serve as preparation and practice for people to go into the holidays, equipped with tools and tips to have healthy conversations with people on “the other side,” and perhaps even find common ground.
