Host a Giving Day

Giving Days are fundraising events (typically 24 hours long) aimed at bringing communities together to raise awareness for the social good efforts in a city, increase engagement, and drive donations.

These events are often launched by nonprofit associations, community foundations, hospital foundations, and educational institutions. With proven year-over-year fundraising growth, Giving Days have increased in popularity as a way to help revolutionize the future of fundraising and are very popular on GivingTuesday

They help build awareness in your location for all of the social good work that’s happening in a community and when paired with marketing efforts, can really help drive participation from new donors.

There are hundreds of giving days that take place on GivingTuesday. Below are case studies for a few of them.

In 2020, BrooklynGives, organized by the Brooklyn Community Foundation, raised $700,000 for nonprofits across the borough. In addition to providing $10,000 in sponsored prizes for participating #BrooklynGives nonprofits, prizes of $500 and $1,000 were designed to drive additional support to grassroots organizations led by Black, Indigenous, and other leaders of color, as well as grant recipients of the Brooklyn COVID-19 Response Fund. Winners were announced during their GivingTuesday live stream and social media channels.

#iGiveCatholic is an online giving event that provides Catholic parishes, schools, ministries, and nonprofits across the United States the opportunity to connect with their current donors and establish relationships with new donors. The goal of #iGiveCatholic is to inspire the Catholic community to come together as faithful stewards and to “Give Catholic” on GivingTuesday. In 2021, #iGiveCatholic raised more than $16.5 million from over 44,000 donors to support 1,620 organizations across the country – that’s 29 gifts per minute!

North Texas Giving Tuesday Now was the first-ever giving day collaboration between United Way of Metropolitan Dallas, Communities Foundation of Texas, and Dallas Cowboys. GivingTuesdayNow gave all three organizations the opportunity to team together to make the biggest impact as possible for their community of North Texas. Working together they raised more than $20.7 million for over 2,500 North Texas nonprofits, as well as an additional $21.8 million contributed to COVID-19 relief funds. Read more here about how they did it.
