With just two weeks to go until TogetherTuesday, now is the time to start building momentum for your activation.
One organization that understands how momentum grows is Lasagna Love.
What began as one neighbor cooking meals during the pandemic has grown into a global movement powered by more than 80,000 volunteers. Their success wasn’t built on large-scale campaigns or complicated systems. It was built on making it easy for people to take part, contribute what they could, and share those opportunities with others.
As you prepare for June 23, these insights from Andria Larson, Executive Director of Lasagna Love, can help strengthen your own TogetherTuesday activation.
Make Participation Easy
Lasagna Love operates around a simple philosophy: “Do what you can, when you can.”
That approach recognizes an important truth: not everyone can contribute in the same way.
Some people may have time to volunteer. Others may be able to donate supplies, share information with their networks, offer expertise, or connect you with new supporters.
The easier it is for people to understand how they can help, the more likely they are to get involved.
As you prepare your activation, think about the different ways people can participate and make those opportunities as clear and accessible as possible.
Community Grows Through Relationships
One of Lasagna Love’s favorite stories comes from Lake Charles, Louisiana, where an effort originally planned to provide 100 lasagnas grew to more than 700 after local businesses began encouraging one another to participate.
What started as a simple act of generosity became a much larger community effort.
Momentum often works the same way—when people don’t just participate, but share what’s happening with others, community engagement grows.
A volunteer tells a friend. A local organization shares your event. A community leader helps spread the word. One connection leads to another.
The more people who know about your activation, the more opportunities there are for new partnerships, new participants, and new ideas to emerge.
Small Actions Matter
Lasagna Love’s growth didn’t happen because thousands of people showed up all at once.
It happened because one person chose to help a neighbor. Then another did the same.
The same principle applies to TogetherTuesday.
Not every activation needs to be large. Meaningful community impact often begins with simple actions that bring people together around a shared purpose.
Whether you’re organizing a volunteer project, donation drive, community gathering, or neighborhood initiative, every participant helps strengthen the effort.
Put These Ideas Into Practice
One of the easiest ways to build momentum for your activation is by creating your Project Page on BeThePeople.org.
Your Project Page gives community members, volunteers, partners, media, and supporters a place to learn about your activation, discover ways to get involved, and explore the ‘Opportunities’ and ‘Stories’ that bring your work to life.
Opportunities are simple ways people can participate, such as:
- Volunteering at your event
- Donating supplies or resources
- Sharing your activation with others
- Offering skills, expertise, or community connections
- Supporting your work in meaningful ways
Stories help people understand the heart behind your activation. Share what inspired your project, the community you’re working alongside, and the impact you’re hoping to create.
Once your story is live, help it travel further. Share your Project Page with community partners, volunteers, local organizations, media contacts, and supporters who can amplify your work in their own authentic voice.
As you share updates, use #TogetherTuesday, #BeThePeople, and #GivingTuesday to connect your local efforts to the broader national movement.
