TogetherTuesday kicked off in the U.S. on June 23, 2026, inspiring people to show up for their communities through volunteerism, fundraisers, dance parties, and more. This shared moment of kindness and care quickly became a bright reminder of the power we all have to make a difference.

For members of the GivingTuesday team, TogetherTuesday was an opportunity to put our mission into action.

“We really need more days like this!” said Samia Yaya Hamid, Data Analyst on the GivingTuesday Data Commons, who organized a local TogetherTuesday activation in Montreal.

Inspired by their GivingTuesday colleagues in the U.S. who were leading TogetherTuesday, Samia’s enthusiasm encouraged Ada Frías, Jr. Product Manager and fellow member of the GivingTuesday Data Commons team, to join in on the fun too. Both celebrated the day by volunteering with Impact Project in Montreal, where they had the opportunity to share 100 hot meals, along with water and juice to keep their community refreshed.

Learn more about what inspired Samia and Ada to participate in TogetherTuesday in our interview below. Then, share what motivates you to give back with #GivingTuesday on social media.

Q: When you first heard about TogetherTuesday, GivingTuesday’s all-new moment to spark acts of kindness and care, what did you think?

  • Samia: We need more days like this! With everything happening in the world today, reminding people that kindness still exists is so important. We hear bad news and too easily forget about all the good happening out there. Even a small act of generosity can restore someone’s hope and remind them that the world is still a beautiful place.

Q: What drew you both to participating in TogetherTuesday in Montreal?

  • Samia: TogetherTuesday started in the U.S. and I wanted to bring that spirit of generosity to one of the most generous communities I know, Montrealers! Beyond our love for hockey, Montrealers genuinely care about giving back. So I reached out to the volunteers from my nonprofit called Impact Project to join in. We regularly organize community initiatives in Canada and internationally—needless to say, everyone immediately said, we’re in!!! That’s one of the things I love most about our team.
  • Ada: I love hanging out with people who do selfless things, just out of the goodness of their hearts. When Samia shared that she was planning an activity for TogetherTuesday in Montreal, I knew it would be a meaningful way to spend my time and support my community.

Q: What are a few takeaways and observations you have from the day? Any specific moments or highlights?

  • Samia: People were incredibly grateful. We expected to be the ones giving, but we received just as much in return through smiles, conversations, and appreciation. One of my favorite moments was when someone, who was so inspired, asked how they could join us for future initiatives. That’s exactly the goal, not just to do good ourselves, but to inspire others to spread kindness too.
  • Ada: A moment that stood out to me was when some volunteers started to arrive and people recognized them and thanked them for their work before we even had the food there. I can see how much this means to some of them and how respectful and grateful they are to receive support from others.

Q: Did anything go differently than you expected, and how did you adapt in the moment?

  • Samia: At Impact Project, we’re fortunate to have an amazing group of volunteers we call our Impacters because they’re passionate about making a positive impact in people’s lives. We also shared the event on social media and encouraged every volunteer to invite one additional person. Some even brought two! That simple bring one friend approach really helped grow the team.

Q: How did you recruit others to help, and what seemed to work best?

  • Samia: We have volunteers, referred to as Impacters, on the Impact team who are always ready to do good. They truly impact people’s lives. By sharing our story on social media and asking each volunteer to bring one friend, we were able to get even more people involved—some volunteers even brought multiple friends!

Q: TogetherTuesday might have passed, but generosity and kindness are still important—how can people keep the momentum going?

  • Samia: I always remind myself that I may not be able to solve every problem in the world, but if I can make one person’s day a little better, then I’ve already helped change the world. We often think changing the world is reserved for superheroes, but kindness is a superpower that every one of us already has. Buy a coffee for a stranger. Help an elderly neighbor. Make a friend smile. Leave a kind note for a cashier. Small acts of generosity create ripples that reach farther than we realize.

TogetherTuesday may have passed, but kindness isn’t limited to one day. Every day gives us another opportunity to make someone’s world a little brighter. We’re also looking ahead to GivingTuesday on December 1, 2026! Impact Project will be participating, and we’ll continue finding new ways to make a positive impact in our community.
