TogetherTuesday is about taking simple, local action.

You don’t need a plan, a budget, or a formal role to take part. Participation can be as straightforward as noticing what’s needed around you and doing something about it. When people take small actions in their own communities, at the same time, the collective impact starts to build.

If you’re not sure where to start, here are a few ways to think about it.

Start With One Small Act

Participation doesn’t have to be organized or time-intensive. In many cases, the most meaningful actions are the simplest ones.

  • Check in on a neighbor
  • Write a thank-you note
  • Drop off groceries or a meal to someone who needs it
  • Offer help with something small, like errands

These acts may seem small, but they help build trust and connection over time—and that’s what makes communities stronger.

Take Action Together

Generosity often becomes more meaningful when it is shared. Inviting a few friends, coworkers, or neighbors to join you can turn a simple idea into something bigger.

You might:

  • Volunteer together
  • Clean up community spaces
  • Organize a small donation drive
  • Visit a local nonprofit or community organization and ask how you can help

Even a small group can create energy that draws others to help.

Share Your Skills or Resources

Everyone has something to offer. Consider what you already know or have, and how it could support someone else.

  • Teach a skill such as cooking, budgeting, or resume writing
  • Offer one-on-one support or mentoring
  • Share tools, supplies, or gathering spaces
  • Help someone navigate a challenge

Bring Your Community Together

If you’re looking to do something slightly more involved, consider creating a simple opportunity for people to connect.

  • Host a potluck or shared meal
  • Plan a small neighborhood gathering in a park or shared space
  • Set up a community message board for needs and offers
  • Bring people together around a simple activity or shared interest
  • Start a giving circle to share resources and pool funds for those in need

Connection is often the starting point for deeper, ongoing engagement within a community.

Build on What You’re Already Doing

You may already be contributing to your community in ways that feel routine or informal. TogetherTuesday is an opportunity to make those efforts more visible and to invite others into them. Whether you’re part of a local group, supporting a cause, or helping out in small ways, you can use this moment to expand participation and bring more people along.

Whether it’s an ongoing project or something informal, you can be part of TogetherTuesday simply by showing up and inviting others to do the same.

Make it Visible

One of the things that makes TogetherTuesday meaningful is that it happens collectively.

When people across different communities take action together, it creates a shared sense of momentum. It becomes easier to see that generosity is not rare or exceptional, but something that happens all around us.

Inspire those around you to join in by:

  • Sharing a photo or story on social media
  • Using #TogetherTuesday in your content
  • Tagging @GivingTuesday to amplify your story
  • Highlighting how others in your community give back

How Do I Join In?

There’s no sign-up, registration, or requirements to participate in TogetherTuesday. Small actions aren’t a lesser version of participation, they are the foundation of it. If you need more ideas, check out the Generosity Toolbox or visit the Be The People stories page for inspiration and examples from communities taking action.
