For many donors, giving is not a single act, but a process of turning motivation into action. What if we could make each stage of a donor's journey easier and more engaging? What if we could increase the impact of giving by making donors more intentional and effective in deciding where their money goes?
Better Giving Studio bridges the gap between what we know about human behavior and the application of that knowledge to online giving products and services.
The next innovation in philanthropy can come from anywhere—whether an entrepreneur is creating a new product or an established giving platform is improving its user experience and conversion.
Giving By All, an initiative of the Philanthropic Partnerships team of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, has created Better Giving Studio to share evidence-based concepts for advancing charitable giving.
Better Giving Studio uses the latest donor behavior research to develop product ideas that giving platforms can use to increase the quality and quantity of charitable giving. Product ideas include summaries and links to relevant research as well as examples of analogous products from other sectors, and interactive, annotated wireframes. All ideas are shared under a Creative Commons license, and users are encouraged to adopt, remix, or use any of these ideas as inspiration for their own innovation efforts.
Each concept is also available to download as a PDF for easy sharing within your team or organization. You can browse all of our available product ideas, or look for product ideas that address specific moments in the donor journey or target defined giving outcomes. You can also learn more about the latest innovations and research around giving on our resources page. And sign up for updates to be notified when they add new product ideas.
