Raised in a family of the playwright Rafael Ortiz Cortés and the elementary school teacher Virgenmina Cortés, at the age of five Javier was already in his first play as an actor. At the age of ten, he began his work as a puppeteer for El Mundo de los Muñecos, a work he continues to this day. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in education with a specialty in Theater. From the UPR in Rio Piedras where he studied with professors Idalia Perez Garay and Gilda Navarra among others. He has always mixed his professional life with his philanthropic work visiting hospitals, children’s homes, and economically disadvantaged communities with his art of puppet theater. As an actor, he has participated in films, plays, and commercials.

El Mundo de los Muñecos is a non-profit organization that wants to impact children with messages that develop their self-worth through the art of puppets. For 43 years we have toured the fields and cities of Puerto Rico leading theater plays with puppets and workshops that highlight the importance of generosity and decent work.
