For over two decades, employees at the Savannah River Site (SRS) in Aiken, S.C., have made the holidays brighter for area children through the Toys for Tots campaign. Since our first SRS Toys for Tots campaign in 1991, over 375,000 toys have been collected for families in need.
Aspiring Mid-Career Professionals (AMP) at SRS celebrated their first #GivingTuesday with the “Living an #UNSelfie Life” event, which gave AMP members the opportunity to participate in a holiday-themed photo booth while donating over 100 items to Toys for Tots.
#GivingTuesday allowed us to pause from our hectic everyday lives and give back to the community. Our goal was to encourage AMP members to engage with the tradition of giving, with the idea in mind that every child deserves a gift this holiday season.
The day was also about sharing the reason for giving to inspire others, which is why we had a photo booth for AMP members to share their “why” behind the reason they give.
At the conclusion of the SRS Toys for Tots campaign on Dec. 7, several tractor-trailers full of presents from the “Toy for Tots Pick Up” event will be sorted at Salvation Army locations. Local Marines will then distribute the gifts to children in the Central Savannah River Area in Georgia and South Carolina.
