On any given day there can be 428,000 children in foster care in the U.S alone. On average a child can be moved 2.8 times during their stay in care. Each time a child moves they have to take all of their belongings with them and are given trash bags to carry them in. Children in foster care are removed due to abuse or neglect and this adds another traumatizing factor for them. The act of placing everything they own into a trash bag sends a negative message that they are no more valuable than the trash that is supposed to occupy the bags.
Friends of Children and Families is a Central Florida based nonprofit that services children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect and placed into foster care. By providing a stable and safe environment our goal is to help ensure that each child is provided the opportunity to develop into a well-adjusted and productive member of society. By providing our children the opportunity to come home to a place where they are safe and cared for, we allow them to finally be children and grow into successful adults.
Our goal this #GivingTuesday is to raise funds so our kids leave us with no more trash bags. The money raised will help us to still care for our kids even after they have left us.
