This story comes from Shelley, who is inspired by the work of Lap4Life

Both of my brothers lost their lives to cancer when I met Maddalena Reade several years ago and we instantly bonded. I think anyone who survives a sibling’s death, knows the heartache of feeling helpless, lost and overwhelming sadness. Unlike Madd, I was still in mourning and feeling helpless in the fight against cancer. Maddalena's brother, Dr. Angelo Casabianca, had died from a rare form of cancer also. But, this woman of courage and determination was not going to let Angelo’s death be for naught. She rallied a Team of warriors and set about the task of raising funds through a non-profit organization called Lap4Life. The slogan on the first t-shirt that I wore for my initial participation in Lap4Life a few years back was, “You’ll Never Be Left Behind”
Maddalena has succeeded in turning Angelo's death into an opportunity to increase awareness for the need for organ transplant & the plight of Desmoids Tumors. This coming June of 2018, Lap4Life will celebrate the 10th Annual Walk/Run at Chadwick Lake in Newburgh, NY. 100% of all proceeds will benefit the Desmoids Tumor Research Foundation and LiveOn NY. An endeavor of this magnitude would not be possible without the total dedication of Maddelana Casabianca-Reade and the 100s of volunteers who make this event possible every year. Her mission is this: 'We are hopeful that the funds raised will be instrumental in finding a cure for desmoids tumors and to improve outcomes for organ donor recipients.' But the reality is that Madd didn't want Angelo's death to be in vain.
