Did you know that every second breath you take comes from the ocean? Even on land, it’s our life support system. Here’s another question: did you know that only 3% of the ocean is actively protected? That means human-caused problems like overfishing and pollution can have a big impact on whales, sea turtles, and other marine life around the world. That’s where we come in.

At Marine Conservation Institute, we’ve worked to protect the ocean for over twenty years. Our team uses the latest scientific research to identify important ocean places and push for their protection. We recently went global and launched the Global Ocean Refuge System, or GLORES (pronounced “glories”). It’s a unique award program that celebrates the world’s best ocean protection. GLORES ensures that the areas saving our ocean will win and help guide others. It channels the same inspirational energy that gets us so excited about Giving Tuesday!

We love how Giving Tuesday showcases groups that are making the world a better place. As a small non-profit focused on our immense ocean, every donation we get makes a big difference. Promoting #GivingTuesday with our organization on social media has felt amazing, like we’re part of something alive and engaging. In 2018, we’ll be working hard to grow GLORES and our momentum from Giving Tuesday will kick start these plans. Together, we can save our ocean and help marine life thrive for future generations!
