Sometimes the little things make such a big difference. With the financial support of many generous donors, Bread of Life Food Pantry in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, has begun to regularly purchase fresh fruits and vegetables to add to their food distribution, as well as breakfast foods like cereal and pancake mix. This addition of otherwise unaffordable foods can help the pantry’s 100 monthly clients, half of whom are senior citizens, to maintain better overall nutrition and combat the increased health risks that come with food insecurity. The pantry staff reports a lot of smiling faces and happy comments when clients get their packages of food and see the new offerings. This kind of care and concern nourishes more than their bodies. It helps the pantry fulfill its mission to not just feed the hungry but to do so in a way that promotes dignity and respect.

Bread of Life Food Pantry is one of many programs in the Claretian Initiative’s network of small scale community development programs across the United States, each designed to be responsive to the unique needs of the community where it operates. This year on #GivingTuesday we are grateful for the support that allows us to do the most good for those in need.
