I am the president and co-founder of the Hoboken Public Education Foundation (@HobokenPEF), an all-volunteer non-profit organization whose mission is to support innovative programs district-wide in the Hoboken public schools and nurture this urban environment filled with diversity. I was recently diagnosed with Stage IV stomach cancer, which gave me the opportunity to reflect and appreciate my work with HobokenPEF so much more. On my journey with this disease, I have met so many doctors and health care professionals who have committed their lives to helping others through science. I have learned that these professionals became inspired to do so while attending public schools. Their experiences in school as young students resonated with them and helped shape who they are today. This #GivingTuesday I am so thankful for being alive and so proud of the exceptional work that the Hoboken Public Education Foundation does for @hobokenpublicschools. HobokenPEF provides interactive learning opportunities to all public school students in the areas of science, technology, engineering, math, global conflict resolution and much more. I believe that the programs we support and fund will foster tomorrow’s scientists, oncologists and world-problem solvers. And maybe, just maybe, a cure for all cancer will result.
