Beam is teaming up with fast casual Mexican chain Dos Toros this #GivingTuesday to empower New Yorkers to make a difference through their purchases on one of the most charitable days of the year. Beam is the first and only social impact app to turn everyday retail experiences into opportunities for social good, empowering people to donate corporate dollars to causes they care about with every visit to partnered brands. In honor of #GivingTuesday--an annual, 24-hour event that kicks off the surge of holiday season giving, Beam's partner Dos Toros is boosting donations through the platform by 10x.
"#GivingTueday is a testament to the power of tech to mobilize people around causes they care about,” said Beam CEO, Viveka Hulyalkar. “We want to sustain the fire that #GivingTuesday is starting year-round, and provide low-barrier activations to keep people engaged every day.” Using proximity technology, beam automatically sends users a push notification when they visit partner brands’ retail locations. Users can then open the notification to view a list of four supported nonprofits and choose one they care about, directing the retailer to make a small (typically, 5-25¢) donation to the selected non-profit on their behalf.
In honor of #GivingTuesday on November 28, Dos Toros will increase donations through Beam by tenfold, from 10¢ to $1, with every visit to its 13 Manhattan and Brooklyn locations. “Supporting our community is a big part of who we are--from our composting and sustainability efforts in the kitchen, to fighting hunger with the Food Bank for New York, to offering former inmates a second chance with Getting Out and Staying Out,” said Leo Kremer, Co Founder of Dos Toros Taqueria. “We’re excited that Beam gives Dos Toros a mobile option to make an even bigger impact, especially on a day as powerful as #GivingTuesday.”
To maximize your impact on #GivingTuesday and sustain it throughout the holiday season, New Yorkers can use Beam at socially responsible brands like Dos Toros, Dig Inn, Think Coffee, Inday, Pinkberry, and more. Supported charities include Food Bank for NYC, Getting out and Staying Out, GrowNYC, and South Bronx United. Beam is an iOS app available for free download in the App Store.
