Friends of ENCA Farm supports smallholder farmers throughout the Philippines ensuring they have access to locally produced organic seeds.

Meet Connie Sotero one of our partner farmers. Connie is 40 years old and a proud mother of four children. She runs a 2,000 square meter farm located in Daclan, Tublay, Benguet in collaboration with her husband Jeffery Sotero. Jeffery is the Municipal Agriculture Officer in Tublay. Together they plant a wide variety of greens, herbs, and vegetables to feed their family and community. Their farm is certified organic and a designated learning site that models biodiversity and organic farming practices. Connie joined our Seed Savers Program last year and is already starting to see the fruits of her labor as she has successfully grown dill, lettuce, and is anticipating her arugula to seed in the coming month! By producing her own seeds she is no longer dependent on purchasing treated and chemically laced seeds from the farm supply store.

Connie also played a key role in the opening of the seed library in Tublay in May 2017 to ensure more farmers have access to locally produced and affordable organic seeds. We are thrilled to be a #GivingTuesday participant and work to ensure that more farmers like Connie have the knowledge and ability to change their communities for the better!
