Every act of giving has a story. In honor of Giving Tuesday, we would like to share the meaning of giving at Aid to the Developmentally Disabled (ADD).
First, what is Giving Tuesday? After Thanksgiving, there is a focus on holiday shopping with the rush of Black Friday, and then Cyber Monday. Giving Tuesday was initiated as a day to focus on giving back.
At ADD, we would like to share our giving story in the hopes that you will consider being a part of that story in some way. Our beginnings and priorities are the residents we serve in our 32 houses on Long Island. From that center, we create. We create programs to engage in our surrounding community; create advocacy and discussion groups; and create job opportunities for individuals who live at ADD residences. We create a chance to give back to those people in need with our Riverhead-based food pantry; and most importantly we create confidence, independence and an empowering environment for the individuals we serve.
Additionally, ADD is able to offer rewarding career opportunities in many areas, as well as allow involvement from our neighbors and fellow-business community with fundraising events and initiatives. This year, on Giving Tuesday – Tuesday, November 28, please consider joining ADD on our journey to growing and enhancing our programs and services. How can you help?
- We have a Wish List of items and services needed in our residences. Do you know someone who can grant one of these for us?
- Share our message. Join our online community by signing up for email newsletters, or follow us on social media and share with your friends.
- Volunteer or sponsor at one of our upcoming events. The next one is the 4th Annual Shamrock Shindig on March 15, 2018.
- Make a monetary donation via our Donate page. Every dollar counts and helps us reach our goals and achieve our mission.
We encourage you to reach out to us. Explore more about ADD, our residential program, employment opportunities and beyond, please browse our website at www.addny.org or call (631) 727-6220 ext. 203.
