Raising funds to improve the technology department of the Our Lady grade school is an ongoing process. Funds are generated through donations and mostly through the profits made from the sales of the SCRIP program (gift cards sales).
The technology department is responsible for the purchase and maintenance of chrome books for the students and teachers, maintenance and upgrade of the computers and its software and programs, and all essential items and needs for the technology department. Current fundraising needs are the purchase of a new batch of chrome books and computer tables for the computer lab.
Being a private parochial school, funds are limited and therefore fundraising is vital to sustaining the technology department. As everyone knows, technology is being updated and revised at a rapid rate. These funds for our students help keep them current with everyday technological advances. This fund also allows our students to learn communication skills in this digital world. It also gives our teachers the right tools to facilitate an exciting way to teach our children.
This year Our Lady School decided to raise funds by joining the #GivingTuesday Movement. #GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. Our Lady began their advertising with information about #GivingTuesday and “Save the Date” on social media, in the local parish bulletins and in the local newspapers. Black Friday weekend more advertisements will be placed in the local newspaper and parish bulletins as well as the school email system. All gift card sales for Black Friday shopping will be dedicated to #GivingTuesday.
There will be a pep rally prior to Thanksgiving dismissal for the student body. The children will be educated about the #GivingTuesday fundraiser and asked to tell their family and extended families about the #GivingTuesday movement at Thanksgiving dinner. We ask the students to give from their hearts as they will directly benefit from the new purchase. And on #GivingTuesday, the #GivingTuesday volunteers will be greeting the parents as they drop off the students at their cars accepting donations. Donations will be accepted all through the day and there will be give-aways. Donations also may be made online at www.ourladyfestus.org.
We would like to encourage everyone in the Our Lady family and extended family to help promote this movement by sharing posts using the hashtag #GivingTuesday on their personal social media sites. We are encouraging every one to have fun with this and make it a family event. Take an #UNSelfie and let your voices be heard!
