Autism Women’s Network (AWN) has joined #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities, and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide.
AWN’s ongoing fundraising efforts aim to provide effective supports to Autistic women and girls of all ages through community, advocacy and resources. Occurring this year on November 29, #GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (in the US) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday to kick off the holiday giving season and inspire people to collaborate in improving their local communities and to give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support.
Autism Women’s Network is participating for the first time in this year’s #GivingTuesday event. Your donations on this day will help expand efforts to provide social meetups in several US cities, and to launch a new initiative that will organize online meetups as well.
AWN Social Meetup Groups provide social interaction and support among Autistic women and girls, meeting at coffee shops, restaurants, movie nights, and other planned activities in their local communities.
“Autism Women’s Network amplifies the voices of people in the Autistic community who are often overlooked by the wider cultural conversations about autism - girls, women, people of color, transgender and nonbinary people,” explains Erin Human, AWN’s Art Director and a Social Meetup Coordinator for Nebraska. “Finding community is so important for Autistic women, and we are eager to provide more of that personal, individualized support in our Meetups, both in person and online.”
