The David Adler Music and Arts Center participated in #GivingTuesday in 2015, but this year, the Adler Center was inspired by the #GivingTuesday Mayoral Proclamation toolkit to participate in a bigger way. We wanted to do more than raise funds, we wanted to build community through giving.

As an arts organization supported and housed by the Village of Libertyville, the Adler Center worked closely with Libertyville Mayor Terry Weppler, and Village Administrator Kevin Bowens to arrange a proclamation that declares Tuesday, November 29th #GivingTuesday in the Village of Libertyville, Illinois.

The Adler Center also asked the Mayor’s office to send a letter to area businesses explaining the #GivingTuesday movement, and encouraging local businesses to give back this season. The Mayor’s letter also directs people to visit a brand new website:

This website is an online directory of Libertyville’s extraordinary non-profits. It was easy to add a page to the Adler Center’s existing website. We simply spent some time calling our non-profit peers and asking them if they wanted to be included in a free directory. The answer was a resounding, “Yes.” The participating organizations are listed on the site alongside a description of the work they do and a link to their own fundraising pages. We have animal shelters and food pantries, arts organizations, and groups serving survivors of sexual assault. It’s a place for all non-profits to share the work they do. It’s been a great way to “meet” our non-profit peers, and has opened the door to future conversation and collaboration.

We hope that Libertyville businesses, individuals, families, and organizations will see the Mayor’s letter and proclamation, visit the online directory, and make an excited, informed decision about giving back this holiday season.

There are a lot of great non-profits in Lake County, Illinois, but rarely do they get the chance to do something together. #GivingTuesday was the perfect time to connect with other non-profits. Together, we are making a big noise to encourage big, local giving.
