Education, Travel & Culture (ETC) has joined #GivingTuesday by partnering with Feed My Starving Children, an organization that parallels the purpose of ETC and provides meals for children and families around the world. Education, Travel & Culture is honored to be part of this global event and is committed to spreading the word and encouraging our communities to participate. We have chosen to partner with Feed My Starving Children because of its outstanding reputation and good work both local and globally.
ETC exchange students, host families and staff throughout the U.S. are teaming with one another to see how much positive impact they can make, partly by acquainting people with foreign cultures and lifestyles.
#GivingTuesday is not only about giving back and serving others on November, 29th, but rather a year-round effort to put others needs before our own.
Amanda Rosenfried, an ETC Local Coordinator in Colorado is taking her German exchange student to the YMCA to help disabled youth explore horse stables. In Eugene, Oregon, Jennifer Gausman, an ETC local coordinator, is rallying international high-school students and their host families to help initiate a clothing and school supplies drive for kids in need. A host mom in Albuquerque, New Mexico is contributing to ETC’s #GivingTuesday activities. She explains, “Our students will be putting together blessing bags with handwritten and inspiration quotes. These blessing bags will be given to the homeless/panhandlers throughout the city. We will also be adopting a family for a holiday meal.”
Sharing the community service movement in America with our foreign exchange students is a life-changing and enlightening experience for them. Volunteering is somewhat of a tradition in American and is unfamiliar to many of our students who come from all over the world. As an organization, ETC’s desire to help communities is prevalent throughout the year and participating in #GivingTuesday enables our students to become immersed in the culture and to experience the U.S. in an authentic way.
