NAMI Dubuque is an affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the largest grassroots mental health advocacy organization in the United States dedicated to building better lives for those affected by mental illness. What started in 1979 in Madison, Wisconsin, by a group of families gathered around a kitchen table has grown into the nation’s leading voice on mental health.

NAMI Dubuque is an all-volunteer organization whose mission is to support, educate, and advocate for those with mental illness as well as their families and loved ones. We offer support in the way of two support group meetings each month, one for persons living with mental illness and one for their families and loved ones. We offer education by way of three educational courses – Peer-to-Peer, Family-to-Family, and Basics – for families/loved ones and for those with mental illness. We advocate by making our community aware of mental illness and the public policy issues surrounding it. We actively encourage and support legislative actions that improve access to services so critically needed by all who are affected by mental illness. NAMI works tirelessly to combat stigma and promote understanding.

NAMI Dubuque relies completely on contributions and gifts to support the important work we do to make the lives of all those affected by mental illness better.  This giving event will offer donors the chance to challenge their peers to learn about and support NAMI Dubuque and the important work we do. We hope to increase our public image and expand our circle of supporters in the community in an effort to eradicate the stigma surrounding mental illness and to reach all of those in need of our services. Please help us spread the word and get the tri-state area excited and primed to participate in #GivingTuesday.
